Comedy Tragedy Cupcakes

One of my colleagues in the Theatre Arts Department where I teach retired so we threw him a retirement party. I made mini cupcakes with flavors inspired by comedy and tragedy. I didn’t tell anyone at the party this inspiration because I’m not sure how well the flavors really conveyed those concepts but they were delicious.

The comedy cupcakes were strawberry cupcakes with lemon curd centers and basil buttercream icing garnished with a candied strawberry and a candied jalapeño slice.

The tragedy cupcakes were spiced chocolate cake with a maraschino cherry in the middle and coffee caramel sage whipped chocolate ganache garnished with a spiced pecan.
